CAIRO, October 19, 2025: Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi announced on Sunday that Egypt will host an international conference focused on the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, following the recent ceasefire agreement that ended nearly two years of conflict. The announcement was made during the 42nd Cultural Symposium organized by the Egyptian Armed Forces to commemorate the anniversary of the 1973 October War.

President El-Sisi said the conference will take place in Cairo in November and will aim to coordinate international efforts and mobilize financial support for the rebuilding of infrastructure and services in Gaza. The announcement comes after Egypt played a key role in mediating the ceasefire agreement reached earlier this month. During his remarks, El-Sisi also expressed appreciation to U.S. President Donald Trump for his involvement in facilitating the ceasefire deal, which was finalized during the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit.

The summit, held in mid-October, brought together heads of state and representatives from over 30 countries to discuss measures to secure peace and advance humanitarian efforts in the region. El-Sisi emphasized Egypt’s ongoing commitment to supporting the Palestinian people, calling on Egyptian citizens to participate in the reconstruction initiative. He directed the government to establish a national mechanism to collect public donations through cooperation with civil society organizations and relevant state institutions.

The plan is intended to complement international contributions by enabling citizens to contribute directly to reconstruction financing. Egypt has played a central role in ceasefire negotiations, humanitarian coordination, and cross-border aid operations throughout the conflict. Since the de-escalation, Egypt has facilitated the delivery of relief supplies through the Rafah border crossing and maintained contact with multiple parties to support the release of captives and detainees on both sides.

The Cairo-hosted conference will bring together international donors, development agencies, and governmental representatives to outline a framework for Gaza’s reconstruction. Egypt previously proposed a $53 billion recovery plan during meetings with regional and international stakeholders. That proposal focuses on rehabilitating critical infrastructure, including housing, electricity, healthcare facilities, and education systems damaged or destroyed during the conflict.

A declaration signed during the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit pledged commitment from participating nations to support the reconstruction of Gaza. The declaration called for sustained cooperation between governments and international organizations to ensure that reconstruction proceeds in line with agreed-upon humanitarian and development standards.

The Egyptian government is also working with the Arab League and international financial institutions to establish oversight mechanisms for the allocation and monitoring of funds pledged during the upcoming conference. According to Egyptian  officials, detailed technical and financial plans are being prepared ahead of the conference to ensure clarity and transparency in the implementation of reconstruction projects.

International cooperation key to Gaza recovery

The Ministry of Social Solidarity and the Tahya Misr Fund have been tasked with managing domestic fundraising efforts and coordinating logistics for humanitarian assistance. These efforts are intended to ensure alignment with the broader reconstruction agenda and avoid duplication of services. Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has begun issuing formal invitations to participating states and donor organizations.

The conference is expected to feature high-level ministerial sessions and expert panels focusing on reconstruction logistics, development partnerships, and public-private sector collaboration. El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s position that reconstruction must be approached as a shared international responsibility, reflecting the collective interest in regional stability and humanitarian relief. No specific dates for the conference have been confirmed, but preparations are underway to host the event in early November. – By Content Syndication Services.
