A UAE delegation of climate diplomats has made the case for progressive climate action as a catalyst for global stability, low-carbon economic progress, and inclusive prosperity at the Bonn Climate Change Conference for the 56th session of the UNFCCC subsidiary bodies. At the conference, countries that are parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) discussed ways to reinvigorate the momentum on climate action and move forward with plans for the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP27) in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt in November.

UAE calls for progressive action at Bonn Climate ConferenceThe delegation to Bonn is led by the Office of the Special Envoy for Climate Change and the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, and includes the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi and Dubai Electricity & Water Authority. As part of the Bonn Climate Change Conference, the issue of implementation under the Convention, Kyoto Protocol, and Paris Agreement will be discussed. This will include transparency, mitigation, adaptation, finance, technology, and capacity building. Additionally, it encourages dialogue on the latest findings of the IPCC’s Sixth Assessment Report.

As part of its economic growth and diversification strategy, the UAE has long placed climate action at the center of its climate action efforts. This has contributed practical and innovative solutions to one of the world’s most pressing problems. With the UAE signing and ratifying the Paris Agreement and committing to an economy-wide emission reduction, the UAE has demonstrated its commitment to the fight against climate change. Net Zero by 2050 is a roadmap for sustainable economic development through the mid-century that was launched just last year by the UAE. Currently, the UAE is working to update its third Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), a climate action plan to reduce emissions and adapt to climate impacts, ahead of COP27 in line with the goals of the Glasgow Pact.
